Funga Alafia Song

The students have enjoyed learning the song ‘Funga Alafia’ which is an African song from Ghana. It is a song of welcome and of opening the heart and sharing what you have. We often start our Performing Arts lesson with this song!

Song actions:

Funga: touch head with both hands (with my thoughts I greet you)

Alafia: outstretch arms

Ah-shay: touch mouth with both hands (with my words I greet you)

Ah-shay: outstretch arms

Funga: touch heart with both hands (with my heart I greet you)

Alafia: outstretch arms

Ah-shay: stroke back of arm between hand and elbow for 2 beats

Ah-shay: repeat for the other arm (I have nothing up my sleeve).

My Friend Fuzzy

This week in Performing Arts the grade 1/2 students made a paper pop up puppet of Fuzzy to help them perform the song ‘My Friend Fuzzy’. Here are the words to song to help you remember.

‘My Friend Fuzzy’

Verse

My friend Fuzzy sleeps all day,

But when night-time comes he loves to play,

He waits ’till everyone is fast asleep,

Then out of his box Fuzzy does peep. He shakes his head and licks his lips,

He blinks his eyes and wiggles his hips,

Taps his nose and gives a sideways glance,

Then Fuzzy pops up (sound effect: whooooop) ’cause it’s time to dance.

Chorus

And he dances and dances all around, And he dances and dances all around, And he dances and dances all around,

And he dances and dances ’till the early morn,

But now he’s tired and he has a big yawn,

He stretches his arms up to the sky, T

hen he pops down (sound effect: ‘whooooop’) and blows a kiss goodbye.
